Bathroom Plumbing in Austin & San Antonio

Bathroom Plumbing Repairs Done Right the First Time

Leaks under the vanity, drains that gurgle, shutoffs that will not shut off, a remodel that needs new lines. Licensed plumbers for every bathroom in Austin, San Antonio and Central Texas.

Small Room, a Lot of Plumbing

Three Fixtures, One Wall, and Nowhere for a Leak to Hide

A bathroom packs a sink, a toilet and a tub or shower into a few feet of wall, and most of the plumbing is behind tile or under a vanity where you cannot see it. So the first sign of trouble is often indirect: a soft spot in the floor, a stain on the ceiling below, a musty smell, a water bill that crept up. Radiant’s licensed plumbers trace those signs back to the actual failure and fix it, in Austin, San Antonio and across Central Texas.

Two things wear bathrooms out faster here than in most of the country. Hard water scales up cartridges, aerators, fill valves and shower heads, so fixtures that should last a decade start dripping in a few years. And in slab-built homes, the drain lines run under the concrete; a leak there shows up as a warm spot on the floor or a bill that will not come down. We check the things you can see, and we know when what you are describing points to a leak under the slab instead of a loose trap.

Pricing is upfront and in writing, honored for 72 hours, with no surprise fees on weekends or holidays. Care Club members get an annual whole-home plumbing safety inspection that catches most of this before it becomes a repair.

  • Sink, toilet, tub and shower One plumber handles every fixture and the supply, drain and vent lines that connect them.
  • We find the source, not the symptom A stain on the ceiling below can be a shower pan, a supply line or a toilet seal. We test each before anything is opened up.
  • Home Comfort Guarantee If we cannot resolve your issue, you receive a 10% inconvenience refund, up to $1,000.

What to Watch For

Bathroom Signs That Mean a Plumber, Not a Plunger

Bathrooms rarely fail all at once. These are the early warnings we see most in Central Texas homes.

  • The sink gurgles when the toilet flushes

Air being pulled through the trap, which means a vent is blocked or a drain downstream is partly clogged. It gets worse, not better.

  • A ceiling stain under an upstairs bath

Could be a toilet wax ring, a tub drain shoe, a shower pan or a supply line. Each one is a different repair; we isolate it before cutting drywall.

  • Shutoff valves that will not turn or will not seal

Old multi-turn stops seize up with scale. If you cannot shut the water off at the fixture, a small leak becomes a big one. We swap them for quarter-turn valves.

  • A sewer smell from a rarely used bathroom

The trap in a guest bath dries out in our heat and lets sewer gas through. Running water fixes it for a while; a trap primer or a cracked line needs a plumber.

  • Hot water takes forever to reach the bathroom

A long run from the heater, a failed recirculation pump or a crossover in a single-handle valve sending cold into the hot line.

  • Soft or lifting floor near the toilet or tub

Water has been getting under the flooring for a while. This one should not wait; subfloor repair costs far more than the leak did.

How It Works

What a Bathroom Plumbing Call Looks Like

We diagnose before we quote, and we quote before we work.

  1. Describe what you are seeing

A drip, a smell, a stain, a slow drain, a remodel plan. If water is actively running where it should not be, we will walk you to the shutoff on the phone.

  2. We isolate the source

Each fixture is tested separately so a ceiling stain gets traced to the toilet, the tub or the supply line, not guessed at.

  3. You see the price in writing

Repair and replacement options, each priced. You choose; the quote is honored for 72 hours.

  4. We repair, test and clean up

Every connection we touched is run and checked for drips, and the bathroom is left the way we found it, minus the problem.

I had Radiant Plumbing replace my tankless water heater, damaged in the Feb. 2021 snowmageddon storm with a new unit. The process was smooth and professional from start to finish. The plumber, James, was extremely knowledgeable and thoroughly explained my options to me. The cost and time to perform the installation were just as estimated. When he was done, James explained how to maintain the system, what service would be needed and how to perform it, and answered all of my engineering geek questions. It was a thoroughly positive experience. I have used several different plumbers in Austin over the past 15 yrs, but my search is over - I will not hesitate to call Radiant next time and would recommend them unreservedly.

8/9/23 Update: I have subsequently used Radiant for a toilet repair, faucet installation (Danny), and drain work (Ezekiel) and they have continued to impress with knowledgeable, friendly plumbers and quality work.

We called Radiant Plumbing after we noticed a water leak in our kitchen. We were in a time crunch and they were able to schedule us quickly, before we left for vacation. They sent their representative, Preston Nichols, and he was excellent to deal with! He was on time, skillful, friendly, and very professional. It turned out to be a problem with our dishwasher but Preston was quick to diagnose it and set our minds at ease. While he was here, we mentioned that our one year-old water heater needed to be flushed. Preston was quick to take care of that, as well, saving us time and money in the process. Radiant charged us almost half the price another plumber quoted us for that service! While Radiant Plumbing isn’t our usual plumber, they gained a new customer. We won’t hesitate to call Radiant again in the future based on our VERY positive experience with them.

Had 3 different systems installed by them approx. 3 years ago for a total of approx $20k. I was quite happy with the install until the year later when they came for a maintenance call and started finding deficiencies in their own install. they wanted extra money to address those deficiencies. Now I am in the process of selling my home and an inspector has found a few items that need to be addressed and they will not even look at the report unless I schedule a $139.00 service call. Very poor customer service.. This company does not stand by their work and would not recommend.

I am revising my review of this business from 1 to 5 stars. After my original review I was contacted by the company's service manager and he made sure that I was taken care off. I had a team of 3 technicians coming to my house to double check the system and make the necessary adjustments. I was very satisfied by their attention to details and professionalism.

Bathroom Plumbing Questions

How do I tell whether a bathroom leak is from the supply or the drain?

Supply leaks are constant: the pipe is under pressure whether or not you are using the fixture, so the drip never stops and the water meter keeps moving with everything off. Drain leaks only happen when water goes down, so the spot dries out between uses. A quick test: dry the area, leave the fixture alone for a few hours and check. Wet again means supply. Dry until you run the sink or flush means drain. Toilet seal leaks are a third kind; they show up after flushes, at the base or on the ceiling below. Our plumbers run these same tests on arrival, which is how we keep drywall and tile openings to a minimum.

Can you rough in plumbing for a bathroom addition or move fixtures during a remodel?

Yes. Adding a bathroom or moving a toilet, shower or sink means new supply, drain and vent lines run to code, and in Central Texas that usually means working in or under a concrete slab. We look at where the existing drain and vent stack are, tell you which layouts are straightforward and which mean cutting concrete, and coordinate the rough-in with your contractor so inspections happen before the walls close. Casitas and garage conversions are common projects for us in both Austin and San Antonio. Quotes are written and honored for 72 hours, and financing is available on larger jobs.

Why does my bathroom sink drain smell bad even though it is not clogged?

The smell usually comes from biofilm on the pop-up stopper and the inside of the tailpiece, a slimy mix of hair, soap and toothpaste that bacteria feed on. Pulling the stopper and cleaning it often solves it. If the smell is more like sewer gas, the trap may have lost its water seal, either because the sink is rarely used and the water evaporated in our heat, or because a blocked vent is siphoning it out. A dry trap refills when you run the tap; a siphoning trap keeps coming back and needs the vent checked. If the odor is in more than one fixture, that points to a drain line problem, and we would look at the whole drain system.

Is low water pressure at just one bathroom sink fixable without replacing the faucet?

Usually. If the rest of the house is fine and only one sink is weak, the problem is local: a scaled aerator, a cartridge packed with mineral grit, a supply line kinked behind the vanity or a shutoff stop that is not fully open. We clean or replace the aerator and cartridge first, which fixes most cases. If the faucet is old enough that the cartridge is no longer made, replacing the faucet can be the cheaper path, and we will tell you that rather than hunting for parts. If the whole house is weak, that is a different problem, often a failing pressure reducing valve, and we treat it as one.
