Sewer Line Repair
Most sewer lines do not fail all at once. They fail at a spot. A live oak root finds one leaking clay joint and grows until it fills the pipe. The bottom rusts out of a cast iron section right where it leaves the slab. Expansive clay swells after a wet spring, shrinks through August, and pushes one joint out of line. A section under the driveway gets crushed. The rest of the line, often most of it, is still doing its job.
A spot repair fixes the section that failed. After a camera inspection locates the problem and marks its depth from the surface, our crew opens a small pit over that mark, cuts out the damaged pipe, splices in new PVC with proper transition couplings to the old material, beds it correctly so it does not settle, and backfills. The camera goes back down to confirm the line is open and true before the hole is closed. Where the pipe is structurally sound but leaking at joints, a trenchless pipe coating can seal it from the inside with no digging at all, and under a slab we can tunnel to the break rather than cut the floor.
We are honest about the limits. When the camera shows three bad sections instead of one, or cast iron that is thin everywhere, a repair is money spent on a line that is about to fail somewhere else, and we will price a replacement alongside it so you can compare. Either quote is accurate, has no hidden fees and is honored for 72 hours under the Home Comfort Guarantee, and financing is available on the larger job.
What to Watch For
A clog comes and goes. A break leaves evidence that stays.
A cable clears it, the camera counter reads the same footage every time. Something at that spot is catching debris: roots, an offset or a belly.
Wastewater leaking from the lateral fertilizes the grass above it and softens the soil. Follow the green line to the break.
Gas escaping from a crack or separated joint. Indoors, the same smell can mean a broken drain under the slab.
A leaking under-slab drain can wash out the soil beneath a foundation. In our clay, that adds movement to a slab that already moves.
A broken sewer line is an open door. Pests that arrive through the plumbing usually mean a break somewhere on the run.
When the cable goes through and the line still drains poorly, the pipe itself is the problem, not what was in it.
What We Repair
Each one has a specific fix. The camera tells us which, and you see it too.
How It Works
Most spot repairs are done in a day. The hole is as small as the camera lets us make it.
The camera finds the break and the locator marks it on the ground with its depth. You see the footage.
A written price for the repair, and for a replacement or trenchless option when either makes sense. Honored for 72 hours.
The crew opens the marked spot, replaces the failed section on proper couplings, beds the new pipe and closes the hole.
Before the hole is closed, the camera confirms the repair is tight and the line is open. Then the yard goes back together.

In most of Austin, San Antonio and the surrounding cities, the homeowner is responsible for the lateral from the house to the point where it connects to the public main, and the utility is responsible from that connection onward. The exact handoff point varies by utility and sometimes by neighborhood, and it is worth a call to your water utility to confirm before assuming either way. In practice, the failures we repair are almost always on the private side, because that is where the old clay and cast iron live and where the trees are. If our camera shows the problem is past your property line in the public main, we will tell you, and that is a call to the utility rather than a bill from us.
They can be cut out, and for a first-time root clog that is the right move: a cable with a root cutter or a hydro jetter with a root nozzle clears the line and buys time, often a year or more. But roots do not grow into a sound pipe. They came in through a leaking joint or a crack, and they will come back through the same opening until it is closed. The repair for that is to replace the joint or section they entered, which is a spot repair, not a whole-line replacement. If the camera shows roots at several joints along a clay run, that is when the math starts favoring replacing the run. Cutting the tree down rarely helps; the roots keep growing for years.
Trenchless repair fixes a sewer line from the inside, through the cleanout or a single access pit, instead of trenching the whole run. The method we use most is an epoxy pipe coating: the line is cleaned to bare wall, then a coating is applied that seals cracks and joints and gives the old pipe a new smooth interior. It works well on a line that is structurally intact but leaking, and it is the answer for a run under a slab, a driveway or a mature tree you want to keep. It does not work on a collapsed section, a badly offset joint or a belly, because there is no sound pipe to coat. A camera inspection is how we find out which you have.
Usually not under a standard policy, which tends to exclude wear, corrosion, root damage and ground movement, and that is what breaks most Central Texas sewer lines. Some policies offer an optional service line endorsement that covers the buried lines on your property, and some utilities and third parties sell separate line protection plans. It is worth reading yours or calling your agent before the work starts. What we can do is give you what a claim needs: recorded camera footage showing the failure, a written diagnosis and an itemized quote. If insurance is not going to help, financing through Service Finance Company, LLC is available on qualifying repairs, subject to credit approval.
Age and trees, mostly; the soil decides the details. In central Austin neighborhoods built before 1970, such as Hyde Park, Crestview, Zilker and Travis Heights, the drain under the house is cast iron and the lateral to the street is often clay tile. Live oak and pecan roots find the clay joints, and cast iron rusts out along the bottom after decades of hard water. East of I-35 and through Pflugerville, Manor and Round Rock, Blackland clay swells and shrinks with the seasons, shearing joints out of line and forming bellies where waste collects.
Sewer repair in Austin follows the same path regardless: camera and locate, open the marked spot, replace the failed section on proper couplings, verify on camera, then backfill. Recurring clogs usually start with our Austin drain cleaning team.
Expect us to find one bad spot more often than a bad line. In 1950s to 80s slab homes inside Loop 410, cast iron under the floor has been narrowed by Edwards Aquifer scale and rusts through at the bottom. In older neighborhoods such as Monte Vista, Alamo Heights and Jefferson, the lateral to the street is clay, and live oak, pecan and hackberry roots grow in at the joints. Expansive clay across the east and south shifts those joints, and after a wet stretch saturated clay seeps into cracked lines.
Sewer line repair in San Antonio means a camera inspection, a locate with depth, a spot repair or a tunnel under the slab, a camera check and the permit where required. If the line is backing up now, start with San Antonio drain cleaning.
