Why Your Air Handler Is Often Located in the Attic

In many homes across Austin and San Antonio, the air handler is installed in the attic to save space and allow direct access to ductwork.

You can usually identify an air handler by:

  • A large metal cabinet connected to ducts
  • Insulated refrigerant lines running to the outdoor unit
  • A drain line to remove condensation
  • A nearby electrical disconnect or service panel

Some systems also include a furnace in the attic, which may be integrated with or connected to the air handler.
