January Radiant Helping Hands Winner: H.A.N.D.

Radiant Plumbing & Air Conditioning had the pleasure of spending some time with the great people over at H.A.N.D. (Helping the Aging, Needy, and Disabled). They are the January recipient of our Radiant Helping Hands monthly $1000 donation. They provide services to people in our community that are not able to sufficiently care for themselves, due to age, disability, or economic circumstance. The help they provide is something that many may take for granted, but without them over 600 households in Travis county would be much worse off.

Their Mission is Providing exceptional, innovative care and support for those who need assistance with daily living, while inspiring others to do the same. This is very evident when you sit down and talk to them. With all the inclement weather we have been having here in Austin, it causes an increased safety risk for their clients. Eloise, one of the case managers with the organization called all of their clients that live alone to remind them not to get out in the ice and cold when the storm hit. Its small things like this that shows how they are achieving their vision of “communities where all individuals are empowered and supported, with what they need, when they need it, to live with dignity and choice.” We are very happy to be able to help with such a great organization that has amazing personnel to care for our community.

For over 40 years, H.A.N.D. has provided a network of support to seniors, people with disabilities and paid caregivers. They employ roughly 300 personal care attendants that work in 600 homes across Travis County. Their programs and services range from non-medical care, social services, transportation, volunteering, community outreach and a workforce development program. They believe that all individuals have inherent worth and are entitled to respect, inclusion, nurture, and independence.
The core of their organization is providing in-home, non-medical care to low income seniors and people with disabilities in Travis County. Their personal care attendants give assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, grooming, transferring, light housekeeping, and meal preparation. H.A.N.D. also provides sliding-scale services based on a client’s income and resources. The top rate is 20% lower than the national average.

Their Social Services Director creates a lasting impact on the lives of their clients by producing a personalized care plan and providing referrals for additional needs so clients can remain in their home for as long as possible.

H.A.N.D. has also added transportation services to assist clients with making appointments or running errands outside of their home. HAND’s Workforce Development program, ASPIRE, provides for the professional development and leadership of their staff, as well as comprehensive employee assistance (EAP) supports for our personal care attendants.
