FAQs About Water Leaks Answered by Your Austin Plumbing Experts

How Much Do You Know About Water Leaks?

You probably don’t know much else other than how much of a necessity it is to call in a Radiant Plumbing expert as soon as possible to come repair it. And that’s A-Okay!

We don’t expect you to be experts on the subject – that’s what we’re here for, after all. So, sit tight – let us tell you everything you should know about water leaks.

Q: What are the most common reasons pipes leak?

A: Leaking toilet flappers, dripping faucets, water heaters, and other faulty valves. These common causes can often easily be repaired.

Q: So, if I have a leak and the causes is none of the above, what could it be?

A: You could have a burst pipe or a sewer main leak. You may also just have old pipes that need replacing. In these instances, the repair job might not be as easy, but no matter what Radiant Plumbing technicians can handle it.

Q: If the leak isn’t fixed right away, how much water can be wasted?

A: You probably won’t like the number you’re about to hear, but leaks can account for about 10,000 gallons of wasted water per year. That’s enough water to fill an entire swimming pool, so it’s really important you take care of any leaks as soon as possible.

Q: Oh wow, that’s a lot of water. Is there a way I can prevent wasting all that water?

A: Of course! You just have to recognize the signs of a leak in your home. Don’t worry – you don’t have to be an expert to do this, just look out for the following: an unusually high water bill, a water meter that changes without fixtures being turned on, a malfunctioning toilet, mold growth under the carpets, wet or hot spots on the floor, or the constant sound of running water. Once you recognize one or more of those signs, call Radiant Plumbing right away!

Q: Radiant Plumbing will come to my home and find the leak for me? How?

A: Great question. To a layman, pinpointing a leak can be difficult, but for the pros it’s no trouble at all. We have all the latest in leak detection equipment, and can choose one of four methods. Whether we use video detection, infrared detection, ultrasonic technology, or smoke detection, we will find your leak.

Q: Once the leak is found, how will Radiant Plumbing repair it?

Whenever possible, our plumbers use the trenchless method of pipe repair. This means that your landscaping that you worked hard to perfect will not be destroyed. There are two different options of trenchless repair to choose from – slip lining and pipe bursting. Slip lining involves placing a new smaller pipe within your existing pipe so that water can flow more freely. Pipe bursting is when we send a piece of equipment with a cone-shaped head into the pipes so it can tear apart the old plumbing and push it aside. New plumbing is then attached to the end of the device and pulled through the void. As mentioned, we will always use these methods if the situation calls for it. However, in some circumstances – like if your pipes are too damaged – the only option we have is traditional pipe repair. Though it does cause some destruction to your yard, we will try our hardest to lessen the burden for you.
