Summertime is here, and it’s time to stop ignoring your poorly running air conditioner. Air conditioners are a lot like old cars. Once they start breaking down, they never seem to run right again. It is a difficult choice to know when to replace vs when to repair. We are here to help you make the decision. Below are some questions that will help you decide whether or not to get an air conditioning replacement in Austin, TX:
Has the current system ever worked perfectly?
The correct system is virtually unnoticeable. You don’t wake up in the night too hot, or too cold. It isn’t loud. Perhaps, you never even hear it. If your system never really worked correctly, you either had the wrong system installed, or it was installed improperly. If it use to work well, and now currently is not, repair might be the right choice. If it has never worked right, a new (correct) system might be what is needed. Why waste money on the wrong system?
How old is it?
Once an air conditioner is more that 8 years old, we start to seriously consider a replacement as an option. The life of an a/c system varies wildly. The way to get 16+ years is be ruthlessly committed to maintenance. This means 2 system cleans per year by one of our techs, and being really consistent with filter changes. An improper installation that has either restricted air flow, or improper freon charge will also lead to early system failure. Reality is, you didn’t do the tune ups 2 per year, and you probably didn’t keep up with the filter changes like you should have. It’s OK, you are just like 90% of our customers. We have other things to worry about, right? Your A/C is on the quick decline once you get over 8 years old, and a new system is in your near future.
How much time do you have?
Again, just like that old vehicle on the decline, how much time are you willing to be without A/C, and having to coordinate working with us? Getting a new system means that you don’t have to even think about this until you are 8+ years down the road. Problem solved! Or pre-purchase our maintenance plan, and not think about it for 16+ years. Either way.
