Austin Whole-Home HVAC Upgrade with Zoning

An aerial view of Cedar Park Texas homes
When an Austin family wanted steadier temperatures and separate control for the primary suite, they turned to Radiant Plumbing & Air Conditioning. Our team installed a new 5-ton Amana gas system, added a two-zone setup with an extra thermostat in the master bedroom, and brought the home up to current code—inside and out.

Job Overview

  • Location: Austin, TX
  • Client Type: Residential homeowner
  • Scope: Full HVAC system replacement with new zoning and controls
  • Equipment Installed: Amana 5-ton horizontal gas system (matching furnace, coil, and outdoor unit), communicating thermostat, AprilAire filter base, Solaris IAQ kit
  • Why It Mattered: The home needed better airflow balance and room-by-room comfort. Zoning and a modern, right-sized system provide quieter operation, improved efficiency, and targeted temperature control.

What We Found

The existing setup did not have zoning, which led to hot and cold spots—especially between living areas and the primary bedroom. Return air and supply distribution were due for an upgrade, and outdoor components needed new electrical and mounting to meet current standards.

The Solution

Radiant’s crew installed a new Amana 5-ton horizontal gas system and completed a full code-compliant change-out:

  • Zoning & Controls: Added a two-zone system with a new thermostat in the master bedroom. Ran new communicating wire to the outdoor unit. Installed and neatly mounted a new zone board with dedicated wiring for each section of the home.
  • Air Distribution: Built a 21″ × 21″ × 48″ main supply plenum. Ran two 16″ trunk ducts with zone dampers to two 19″ × 19″ × 48″ sub-plenums. All joints sealed and strapped for long-term performance.
  • Indoor Upgrades: Added an AprilAire filter base for better filtration and serviceability. Installed a Solaris kit to enhance indoor air quality.
  • Outdoor Upgrades: Set a new equipment pad, disconnect, and electrical whip for safe, clean installation.
  • Site Logistics: Coordinated attic access and equipment handling around the existing ladder opening as discussed with the homeowner.

The system started up cleanly with no issues, and the installation was prepared for city inspection. Equipment registration and 10-year parts & labor warranty were completed.

The Results

With zoning in place, the family can set the primary bedroom separately from shared spaces for comfort day and night. The upgraded distribution and sealed duct connections improve airflow and efficiency, while the Solaris kit and high-quality filtration help keep air cleaner. The result: steadier temps, quieter operation, and a system built for reliable service for years to come.
