HVAC Tune Up vs. PMP

When it comes to HVAC maintenance, you have two options. You can get a tune up as needed or sign up for a PMP (Preventative Maintenance Plan). Here are the facts:

HVAC Preventative Maintenance Plan

A typical PMP for HVAC systems includes a biannual visit from a technician in both the spring and fall to make sure your system is prepared for the scorching heat and the freezing cold of Central Texas. During these visits, we blow your A/C drain line to clear out or remove any obstructions or debris that may have accumulated in the air conditioning (A/C) refrigerant lines. This procedure goes a long way to ensure optimal performance from your system. A congested drain line is often the culprit and source of interruption during the summer. Mold and muck can thrive in the humid conditions in your pipes and coils. So with a PMP, you’ll clear them out long before they can get comfortable in your drain line.

Also included in your PMP is a good old fashioned scrub. The technician will wash your condenser coil and clear leaves and other debris from inside the condenser. They use a pressure washer and special tools to get in tight spaces. Cleaning your condenser twice a year will increase efficiency, prolong the lifespan of your unit, and prevent future damage.

When you sign up for an HVAC PMP, it’s easy to bundle with other services. For instance, there’s a package deal that includes one plumbing visit for the year as well. There are many more PMP combinations available and our team members at Radiant are more than happy to discuss these options with you.

Signing up for a PMP is a proactive choice. It gives you peace of mind and having your system inspected and cleaned on a regular basis drastically lowers the chances of future damage or breakdowns.

HVAC Tune Up

An HVAC tune up is as simple as it sounds. It’s a one-off visual inspection of your unit to ensure it’s working as it should. When an HVAC technician arrives, they use their expertise to spot problems early and offer solutions. From water accumulating in your drain pan to signs of water damage and leaks, they’ll diagnose your unit and get it working properly.

As a one-off job, tune ups are cheaper than PMPs. The downside of getting a tune up is that no preventative care is included. That costs extra. Preventative care you miss out on includes clearing the drain line and cleaning your outdoor unit. But if you want to keep that upfront cost as low as possible, this could be the right option for you. Uncertainty about moving within the next year is another example of when a Tune Up is the way to go.
