At Radiant, we firmly believe that it’s proven character, expert skills, and hard-earned experience that make a great technician. There’s no shortcut for attaining these qualities. Nothing can replace the hard work and dedication required to perfect your craft. That being said, there are some special instruments that can help get you there. We’re of course referring to your toolbox. Having the right tools handy can enhance your performance in the field, drastically save time, and even get you out of a pinch.
Radiant Co-Founder & CEO, Brad Casebier, shared a few of his favorite tools and demonstrated their usefulness at Radiant HQ in Austin, TX. He became immersed in the world of plumbing at the tender age of 13, and over the years, he’s tried just about every tool on the market. Having personally experienced the technological innovations (or lack thereof) in the plumbing industry over recent decades, Brad knows a useful tool when he sees one. First up is a nifty little toilet tool known as The Jam-Bar.
Fluidmaster Jam-Bar (AKA “Johni Bar”)
This inexpensive tool has a sleek “V” design that allows you to lock onto toilet bolts and stop rotation. It can easily grip a variety of bolt sizes and it’s made from durable steel for longevity.
RIDGID Telescoping Basin Wrench
Straight off the bat, this tool’s water-resistant LED light is a gamechanger when working in tight spaces. It’s handle is removable and pivoting, allowing for effortless scoping from 10” to 17.” It might take a little getting used to, but the RIDGID Telescoping Basin Wrench is a great tool and it gets Brad’s stamp of approval.
Our Ultimate Tool Guide
Reviewing these tools got the creative juices flowing, and a discussion arose among our team members to determine which essential tools every technician should have in their toolbox. Brad, together with our most experienced managers and technicians, came up with the ultimate list of must-have tools for 2021. In case you needed any more convincing, we even got our friends at Moore Supply to give their input.
