Easy Tips for Plumbing Maintenance

No matter the time of year, plumbing problems can strike when you least expect them, which makes plumbing maintenance highly important. Leaky faucets, overflowing toilets, and clogged sink drains are exactly the sorts of things you want to avoid at all cost. If not, you may find yourself having to pay a hefty amount of money trying to pay for repair service. Unfortunately, many homeowners don’t take proper actions to ensure their plumbing is maintained, leaving them with troublesome plumbing fixtures and higher costs of monthly bills.

Fortunately, Radiant Plumbing is here to show how you can perform plumbing maintenance in your own home! While many homeowners simply just don’t know where to start when it comes to taking care of their home’s plumbing system, our team of professional plumbers are willing to lead customers down the right path. We want to ensure your home’s plumbing system is working well at all times of the year, so never be afraid to call us up for advice!

How Can You Maintain Your Plumbing?

The plumbers at Radiant Plumbing are here to help you with any of your plumbing needs but in the meantime, there are several things you can do to ensure your plumbing is ready to go. Heed the following advice:

  • Check for Pipe Leaks: Pipe leaks are pesky, tricky things! Since they’re not immediately visible to the eye, a pipe leak may form and worsen in your home with you even realizing it. Instead, you need to rely on visible signs in your home. Common indicators of a pipe leak include stained ceilings, wet walls and flooring, higher monthly water bills, and musty water smells.
  • Turn Down Water Temperature: Like anyone else, you need hot water many times a day, but it can really put a strain on your water heater. Make sure the temperature of your water heater is set below 125 degrees Fahrenheit. This will allow you to save money on energy bills, as your water heater will use up less energy to heat water. It will also keep water from verging on scalding.
  • Shorten Shower Time: You will only use 20 to 40 gallons of water with a 4 minute shower. If you want your water heater to last a longer time and lower the costs on your monthly bills, keep shower times short. If you live with family, wait 10 minutes between each shower to give the water heater a rest.
  • Throw Grease Away: Thinking of putting grease down the drain? Don’t! Cooking grease can actually harden in drains and make them near impenetrable. Instead of just carelessly throwing grease down the drains, store it in a plastic bag before throwing it in your regular garbage.
